The new concept was to sell units and allow the owners to rent them to recover some of the costs. And costs were substantial. The smaller units of 450 square feet or about the size of a standard ho- tel room were priced from $450,000 to $600,000. Larger units in the 600 - 700 square foot range were priced at $865,000 to $925,000. The two - bedroom, two bath units with 1,500 square feet were priced from $1.1 million to $1.9 million. Deluxe units with terraces sold at $2.4 million. And none of these luxurious units have kitchens. Granville A. Morse, Singer Island developer and owner of the Brazilian Court Hotel from 1963 to 1978, died in West Palm Beach June 3, 2001 at age 86. After a few years it was obvious that Gosman's idea for a residential hotel for seniors didn't work. Those people who could afford such expensive services preferred to live in their own home with staff to care for them.
