Baker’s Shoe Store Fire, August 2, 1960

RIGHT: This photo was taken during the initial attack on the fire. Pump lines were stretched to the second floor back door in the alley to the far left of the photo. T-42’s ladder pipe was in op- eration on Dixie Highway in the black smoke left-center. This attack pushed the fire to the front of the building where the lighter smoke is visible in this photo .

BELOW: Later in the fire. This photo shows that the attack from the alley and ladder pipe on Dixie has knocked down the fire in the rear half of the store. The lighter smoke to the left indi- cates partial extinguishment. The heaviest black smoke is now venting the roof from the front of the store. Pump lines are now being set-up in the intersection of Dixie and Clematis.
